5-Day Active Winter Itinerary in Rovaniemi
Below is our suggested five-day programme for travellers who enjoy staying active and spending time outdoors. Choose your preferred skiing and snowmobile experiences, with evenings kept flexible for Northern Lights hunting.

Day 1 – Arrival and Exploring Rovaniemi

Travel to your accommodation and settle in. Airport transfers can be arranged separately by taxi or services such as Menevä, Uber or Bolt.
Afternoon | Discover the city
Enjoy a walk around Rovaniemi, stop for lunch or visit Arktikum, Korundi or Pilke, depending on your arrival time and museum opening hours. Collect your winter clothing if you have arranged rental.

If your arrival time and conditions allow, head out on your first evening.

Day 2 – Ice Climbing in Korouoma

Head to Korouoma Canyon for a day of ice climbing surrounded by frozen waterfalls and winter scenery. This is the most physically adventurous day of the itinerary.

Day 3 – Skiing in Ounasvaara
Option A | Cross-country skiing
Explore Ounasvaara’s winter trails at your own pace. Rent equipment for an independent outing, or arrange a lesson if you would like help with the technique.
Option B | Downhill skiing
Spend a few hours or a full day on the slopes of Ounasvaara. Choose equipment rental and a lift pass for your preferred duration, with lessons available separately.
Cross-country ski rental: €32–€50 per person. Downhill skiing, including equipment rental, lift pass and KeyCard: €72–€108 per person, depending on duration. Lessons and transfers are additional.
Evening | Free time or Northern Lights
Enjoy dinner in Rovaniemi and keep the evening flexible for a possible 19:00 Northern Lights departure.
Day 4 – Full-Day Snowmobile Adventure
Option A — 10:00 | Snowmobile Ride to SnowHotel
Combine a longer snowmobile journey with a guided visit to Arctic SnowHotel and a glow-fried salmon lunch in a warm wooden Kota. Explore snowy trails, discover the hotel’s ice interiors and warm up before your return ride.
Estimated price: €257 per person, with two people sharing a snowmobile. Duration: approximately 6 hours, including around 3 hours of riding, the visit and lunch. Scheduled departures: Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Option B — 10:00 | Full-Day Wilderness Snowmobile Ride
Spend the day exploring forest trails and frozen landscapes farther from Rovaniemi. This adults-only safari offers an extended ride with stops to enjoy the surroundings and a campfire lunch along the route.
Estimated price: €255 per person, with two people sharing a snowmobile. Allow approximately 7 hours including transfers, with 5½–6 hours outdoors. Scheduled departures: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Single driving: an additional €85 per person.
Snowmobile prices and schedules remain subject to confirmation for your travel dates. Pick-up takes place before the activity starts; your exact meeting time will be provided when booking.

Day 5 – Husky Safari and Departure
Morning | Breakfast and check-out preparations
Have breakfast and prepare your luggage before the activity.

Finish your stay with a 5 km husky safari, travelling through the snowy landscape.
Estimated price: €188 per person, including the transfer and booking fee. The experience lasts approximately one hour; allow additional time for transfers.
Afternoon | Return clothing and departure
Return rented winter clothing, collect your luggage and travel to the airport. This programme requires a later departure, with enough time after the husky safari for transfers and airport check-in.
Days 2–4 may change order to match operating days and availability. Reindeer visits, ice skating or a Riisitunturi National Park hike can also be considered as alternatives or added to a longer stay.
